New Yorker cartoonist John O'Brien brings a subversive sense of humor to this collection of cartoon stories. Most are wordless, told in four panels on two pages (some more, some less), and visually tweak our expectations. It's not really an early reader, since there are very few words. It's grouped by themes into chapters, but it's not a chapter book. It's not really a graphic novel, since it's entirely illustrations. The category in the catalog is cartoon book. OK. It's definitely fun. I can see this book working beautifully in the classroom in a variety of ways. Recommended.
